Kennesaw, GA. – After the ICE walkout last Tuesday, PolSci undergraduate Alex Washington is cursing themself for actually looking out for their health with a social media break. When they deleted all their apps, they were worried that they were not able to truly keep up with the happenings of local politics. Those fears were found true on Jan. 19th, the day after Martin Luther King Day. “Turns out when you try not to suffer through discussions about how this one thing is ruining society, you miss out on the chance to join others for something,” says Washington. As they were in the middle of a group discussion for a class, the walkout began. When they finally figured out what was occurring, class was over, and they had nothing to actually walk out of. “I wanted to join the protest march after, but I didn’t have an actual jacket to walk in, so I had to drive all the way home in Lawrenceville.” So obviously, Alex Washington did not return in time for the protests and found themselves breathing heavily at a dispersing crowd. When pressed for an explanation on why they were not updated, friends explained how they sent information on group chats… on Instagram and their stories. “Does anyone own a printer anymore? Like, for socialists, they seem really comfortable just using apps that do nothing but push ads on you?” They cry. Washington explained they caved and returned to social media apps. They began with TikTok, where they were introduced to an AI video of Charlie Kirk as Luke Skywalker with JD Vance as Yoda. “This is the price to be informed. This dystopia sucks so hard, man.”
