A local student reported something that I bet resonates with the masses. Rage-inducing tutorial videos. They report needing to get a big video project done, using Adobe, and how annoying looking up instructions on YouTube is.
“All I want is to just see the answer. Either the videos take way too long to get the point, or they are way too fast to even keep up with! Where is the happy middle? Where are the videos that just give the steps?” the student ranted.
It is a true phenomenon. The shorts are often not long enough to allow any space between the steps, but for normal videos, the algorithm favors longer videos.
“My video is due tomorrow morning! And I’m not even halfway done yet! And yes…it is mainly because of my procrastination, but the dumb tutorials are not helping! Well, I guess technically they are helping, but they help in a very annoying manner.”
We decided to interview other students who would perhaps have a different perspective on the matter. We contacted various Film, Digital Media, and Visual Effects majors, and they all expressed exasperation with stupid tutorial videos.
“Like, I just wanted to see how to fix moiré patterns on DSLR cameras when filming actors in patterned clothing, but the dumb guy just prattled on about subscribing to his channel and what he had for breakfast. Just tell me how to fix the damn pattern!” the film major commented, twirling her hair.
The Digital Media and Visual Effects majors also expressed difficulty in animation, with one particularly peeved student saying that “Why do all the tutorials suck especially hard at explaining hands. Hands are the bane of my existence.”
And there you have it. The university students have decreed that YouTube tutorials are stupid. I sure am glad I went the reporting route.
