Kennesaw State University will be unveiling new smart buses next week. The improved buses will use thermal technology to detect students. Essentially, the smart buses are sentient enough that they are capable of tracking students’ locations. However, the buses will have a countdown system for how long students have to get on before the bus leaves.
“The bus will even be able to detect if its doors are closing on and crushing a student”, stated the CEO of smart buses.
As for whether the buses will reduce commute time, it has been reported in test runs that the buses might save students five minutes on average. There is also the possibility that it might increase commute time due to the automatic nature of the bus.
“No more bus drivers waiting on students, but universities so far have loved taking the little risk in order to help students. I mean, five minutes is a lot of time,” reports the CEO.
When asked about the new buses, one student reported, “I’m glad my student fees and tuition are going into this new technology. I may have to pay to print on campus, but the new buses will at least make missing your bus interesting.”
Lastly, when Kennesaw State University was contacted, the school claimed professors were already excited to mark more students tardy due to the bus system.
