Local Bars Near MSU Seem Unaware of Underage Drinking

The world’s second oldest profession: drinking. It is an epidemic, and in a country where college students are as young as 17, underage drinking is inevitable… or so you would think.

Some hotspot bars around East Lansing and MSU’s campus include Rick’s, Harper’s, Landshark, Fieldhouse, and others. All of these bars swear that they have no knowledge of anybody underage drinking in their bars.

An executive at Rick’s stated: “We are very strict and abide by the law here at Rick’s. We are strong believers in prohibition and think drinking is bad. Hell, we only do this crap because it makes us rich. I can assure you, nobody is underage drinking at our bar.”

We asked one 19 year old standing outside the bar her thoughts, but we could only make out every fifth word. She said something along the lines of, “I [unintelligible] to [unintelligible] it.”

We then went to Harper’s where the owner told us, “I promise you, everybody in our bar is over 18 years old.” When informed that the legal drinking age is 21, the owner replied: “Since when?”

What do you think? Are these bars lying or are college students in East Lansing abiding by the law? It is common knowledge that college students don’t like to drink and prefer to spend their weekend nights working on homework and talking politics at home with their roommates.
