MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.,—The University of Minnesota finally banned all AI use after BarstoolGophers upset students by making AI art without using real artists from the school.
The account thought they could get away with using AI for content, with a post showing different Minnesota-related things depicted by AI. Looking at their comment section, though, you would think the admin had committed a crime punishable by death.
The University saw the backlash and decided to ban all AI to protect the very important student artists. ChatGPT is included in the ban which was announced by President Dr. Rebecca Cunningham.
“The board of regents really twisted my arm with this one, I was personally against the ban,” Cunningham said. “Now I can’t use ChatGPT to write all my public statements.”
As a result of the ban, the overall GPA of the University has dropped a full point but at least artists will be protected from malicious posts like BarstoolGophers’.
