The most common side effect of eating raw chicken is Salmonella. For Drew alumni, it’s pure nostalgia… and Salmonella. Recent Drew University graduate Ben Walters gained Social Media attention this week after expressing his feelings of homesickness for Drew after eating a piece of dangerously undercooked chicken. “The second I bit into that raw poultry, I was transported back to my first time in the commons,” said Walters. “Just a nervous freshman eating grilled chicken, totally unaware that he was about to make friendships that would last a lifetime, then later, 18 hours of the worst food poisoning of his life that would end with an IV in the hospital.” Walters went on to say that he wouldn’t change a thing about that day. Drew University reached out to Walters, thanking him for sharing his trip down memory lane. “This is exactly the kind of life-long impact we want to have on our students,” said Drew President, Hilary L. Link, PhD., “With the new school year starting up, we considered re-evaluating our food prep, but how could we rob these new freshmen of such an essential Drew right of passage?” The Drew Health Center sent out a notice reminding all students and faculty that when in doubt, choose the cereal dispenser. The Nut would like to welcome the class of 2029 to our home, Drew University. Explore the campus, talk to as many people as you can, and enjoy the chicken.
