This Wednesday, an unprecedented and disturbing event occurred just off UVA grounds. A CVS Creep was spotted inside the store, harassing an undergraduate student.
As any feminine-presenting student knows, the CVS on the Corner is a frequent location of creeps and catcallers. Most hours of the day and night, they can be found sitting or pacing around the store’s entrance, waiting for people to make uncomfortable with their putrid air of self-appointed superiority and utter lack of sexual appeal. However, it was widely assumed that these Creeps were either unable or unwilling to enter the store until Wednesday’s horrific event.
Undergraduate student Cidney Zenn was making a late night trip to CVS when she caught a whiff of weed while perusing one of the aisles.
“Normally, I wouldn’t think much of this,” said Zenn, “I would be on weed too if I worked a 2 AM shift at CVS. But then I realized that there weren’t any employees around, and the odor was just getting stronger by the second.”
Zenn reports then being approached by an unfamiliar man who proceeded to make unwanted comments regarding her appearance and groceries.
“I was stunned,” said Zenn, “This man was obviously a creep, but I’ve never seen one inside the store.”
The man followed her around for several minutes while she shopped, and Zenn eventually had to find an employee and feign conversation before the creep backed off.
Just as Zenn was about to leave, she saw something truly disconcerting.
“I was at the self checkout and about to wrap up when I see this man reach for the door handle, open the door, and walk out! I didn’t know they could do that! I mean, yeah, I’ve seen some of them use phones and blunts, so obviously they’ve got a rudimentary grasp of tool use, but I’ve never seen one open a door,” Zenn reported, still seeming unsettled by the events, “If they can figure out doors, what’s next?”
UVA’s Department of Safety and Security urges all students to report any similar encounters and to travel in pairs for the time being, until the situation can be properly assessed and managed.
