Patton Hall, one of Georgia State University’s dorm buildings, has been notorious for its constant shutdowns. Whether it be flooding, breaking down, or catching on fire, the dorm’s residents haven’t caught a break.
After another emergency evacuation last week, Halloween retailer “Spirit Halloween” pounced on the empty building and started setting up shop. They plan to capitalize on the faulty pipes and leaky lavatories, claiming that it adds to the haunting atmosphere. There will even be an immersive exhibit where students must try to survive a meal in the dining hall without the ceiling caving in on them.
Many students are looking forward to the store, agreeing that it’s on theme considering how scary the dorm building’s unreliability has been. On the contrary, residents of nearby dorm buildings, such as University Lofts, are frustrated by the lack of easily accessible meals. One student voiced, “We have to walk an extra two blocks down the street now.”
Spirit Halloween has heard the influx of complaints, and welcomes students to enjoy their wide range of food options, such as spider leg casserole, brain spaghetti with blood sauce, and mummy-wrapped hotdogs. Dietary or ethical restrictions may apply.
While countless students are out of a place to live, Spirit Halloween’s takeover will ensure that Georgia State University can continue to profit off of the self-destructive residence hall.
