The SGA of UNT has drafted a bill to ensure its constituents have fewer classes in October. This bill will allow the students to leave classes at the latest by 12 p.m. on October 10th, the day of the UNT vs. University of South Florida football game. The bill still needs to be approved by President Harrison Keller, and a lot feel that the bill will be approved due to all the great talking points that are covered in the bill, and the SGA body’s statements.
One point that the SGA makes is that UNT is a southern institution; therefore, the love of football and brisket is as natural as breathing air. Since there is that natural inclination, they must be given easier access to both the game and the tailgates. The last thing they want to do is have students sue them for not giving them brisket.
Another good point they make is that it helps with the parking issue. Typically, students who park in the lot near the stadium have to remove their cars a few hours before the game starts. The new resolution allows students to have plenty of time to move their cars before the game. A shorter class day will give students with poor time management skills more time to plan for last-minute actions. The SGA states that the resolution will allow them to accomplish one of their main goals, increasing student engagement with university events. I’m glad they finally solved the mystery of low attendance for school sports- parking location.
Finally, the crème de la crème of the reasons is all about mental health. Experts have mentioned that FOMO, lack of beer, briskets, and football can cause someone to be depressed. The SGA states that the other goal is to improve mental health services and awareness throughout the university. So, the segway makes complete sense. When talking about football the first thing we think about is head trauma, and head trauma makes people think about trauma.
So, President Harrison Keller, if you are reading this- please pass the resolution. The students here are throwing everything they have so that they can have the afternoon off.
